The Paper Girl is, at its core, a blog about the antiques business, and is focused on ephemera.
What is ephemera? It’s postcards, photographs, newspapers, bookmarks, advertisements, posters: things that were never meant to last beyond their initial purpose. Ephemera is little surprises in boxes of forgotten curiosities. It’s portable history.
Ephemera is one of the easiest, most affordable things to collect and share. There’s something for every taste, and I think that’s amazing.
The Paper Girl is here for three reasons:
- to preserve and share vintage and antique ephemera for future generations.
- to teach other resellers how to source, sell, and even preserve more ephemera so that more pieces make it out into the world.
- to provide fellow artists and crafters with material that’s free of generative AI.
Who Am I?
I’m Mel, a magpie of a person with background in Multimedia Design with a lifelong attachment to the decorative arts and vintage reselling. I’ve done it all, from selling at multi-vendor markets to cataloguing for online auctions, selling on Etsy and eBay to helping run a brick-and-mortar store (including running its consignment service). I’m also a student of the Asheford Institute of Antiques.
