James Herbert Vick was the son of George Vick, founder of Orillia’s very first bakery, “Geo. Vick & Sons” (George Vick & Sons), which opened approximately 1856.
Mariposa Market is located in that spot today.
George and his family owned a mill as well, which he took over from R. A. James in 1880. The Vicks’ mill produced flour brands Lilly and Eclipse.
In 1911, J.H. would have been overseeing the store for fifteen years alongside his brothers.
